2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign The Lexus GX2022 SUV has been around for a long time, and while it doesn’t follow the same formula as most modern luxury crossovers – built on a separate frame, like the old-style pickup truck-based SUVs – its charm lies in its off-road capability and quiet cabins.
Talking about the cabin, the GX offers space for up to seven thanks to three rows of seats, so families can explore nature or take road trips in relative comfort.
The 4.6 liter V-8 is the engine’s only option and, while not very fuel-efficient, produces 301 hp and powers all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Where the GX shows its age the most is in the technology features it has available.
An 8.0-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard, but the software interface is not as cutting-edge as on more modern Lexus models such as the LS and ES sedans or the UX subcompact SUV; it doesn’t even have common connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
But apart from the Land Rover Defender, the GX is one of the few options left in the mid-size luxury SUV segment that can be used off-road.
2022 GX 460: Lexus GX 460 Review
Lexus is known for showing off sharp bold design cues in all of its offerings regardless of body type. We’re pretty sure, that if Lexus decides to come up with a pickup truck, it will be another unique yet acceptable addition to its sharp design language.
With a unique combination of design, comfort, and practicality, this film became famous in a short period.
The GX is one of Lexus’ longest-running offerings that hasn’t seen a generational upgrade in a long time. It’s a slot right below its flagship offering, the LX which will effectively be replaced by the Lexus LQ in 2022.
The Lexus GX 2021 is still developing with the 2nd generation GX introduced in 2010. Impressively enough over the 11 years, the old platform has become somewhat relevant in the era. the fully electric and hybrid platforms of all major carmakers, including its parent – Toyota.
The GX has held up well but is now on the threshold and in dire need of a generational upgrade. But we’ll have to wait a little longer for that, as the Lexus GX 2022 is also expected to be based on the 2nd generation platform, and the remains of the slightly updated Lexus GX 2021.
This sleek-looking Oldie will continue to lock the horn with a bevy of capable modern SUVs, including the Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5, Volvo XC90 Audi Q8, and the all-new Genesis GV80.
The Lexus GX 460 Next Generation will show off subtle updates in the form of a new exterior finish. It will continue to be offered in 3 trims – Base, Premium, and Luxury for the same price as 2021MY. This will put the base trim at an MSRP of $ 53,450 and go up to $ 64,715 for the Luxury trim.
With the Lexus GX 2022, this SUV will enter it’s MY 13 which is quite tiring. Hopefully, this will end next year, as rumors say the Lexus GX 2023 will be a new generation with hybrid power.
Lexus GX 2022 Will Continue Well With Old 301 Hp 4.6L V8
The Lexus GX 2022 will continue to pack the only Naturally Aspirated 4.8L V8 producing 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of power.
This engine has been feeding the power of this sharp SUV since its existence and continues, thanks to its extreme flexibility in terms of performance and traceability.
These numbers are very disappointing for an SUV that weighs more than 5,000 pounds.
But Lexus has grown tired and reduced its power outages by providing a smart Kinetic Dynamic Suspension system as standard. The GX 2022 will also continue to enjoy these perks and will also have a maximum crane capacity of 6,500 pounds.
All of this allows us to forgive him for the sluggish performance and the 0-60 mph acceleration figure which takes a sweet 7.2 seconds.
Is The Lexus GX 460 Worth Buying
Take the 2022GX460 off-road, or even on a surface that feels like off-road, and it makes sense.
The Lexus fun, character-controlled driving, and ornate luxury cabin are the most attractive things about it. But that’s not the same as great value.
GX460 Redesign: Is Lexus Going to Redesign The GX
The 2022GX460 will share the same technical features as the current model. The GX currently has a 4.6-liter V8 engine which we do not expect will change for the 2022 model year.
Without the expected changes, the Lexus 2022GX460 will come with the same safety features as the current model.
2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: Next Lexus GX Redesign
Lexus GX Remodel Most of today’s SUVs are designed more for city driving than tackling cobbled roads and dirt roads.
The Lexus 2022GX460 is a little different. It’s quite capable of handling those menial tasks thanks to a special suspension system that improves wheel articulation in off-road situations.
This, combined with a low-range 4WD system, maximizes traction when you need it most.
Unfortunately, the GX 460’s off-road focus interferes with road comfort. We like the firm seating position and user-friendly 2022 Lexus GX Interior, but the ride is stiff on less than perfect sidewalks. Other downsides include an underpowered and very thirsty V8 and a lack of cargo space.
Some other SUVs, such as the Land Rover Discovery, are better at providing similar capabilities without losing utility. Check out our Expert Rating for more on what we think of the 2022 GX 460.
Lexus has made some changes to the aging GX SUV for 2022 but has added a Premium Plus trim between its premium mid-range and top-spec luxury models. It comes standard with a power-operated third-row seat and a Mark Levinson premium stereo system.
The GX infotainment system now offers Amazon Alexa compatibility. Wood and the heated leather steering wheel are now optional on the Premium and Premium Plus models.
The Lexus GX has carried forward old architecture over the past ten years and continues to do so! It needed a thorough facelift which was much needed because, with a powerful yet outdated engine, the GX 460 broke fuel economy and turned out to be a thirsty SUV.
Truth be told, the GX 460 was the first off-roader and then a mid-sized luxury SUV. The rugged design allows the GX to restore compelling performance in uneven road conditions.
On the brighter side, the Lexus GX2022 460 offers a crane capacity of 6500 pounds. This is the key factor that sets it apart from the competition comprising the BMW X5 and Audi Q7.
The seats are a little uncomfortable and the third-row seats can only accommodate children even though it is a medium-sized SUV. But this aging powerhouse still has a bit of struggle left as it continues to face a new wave of Germany.
When Will The GX 460 Be Redesigned
The When Will The Lexus GX 460 Be Redesigned will flaunt a subtle update in the form of a new exterior color. Lexus will continue to offer it in 3 trims — Base, Premium, and Luxury, and the price will be similar to 2021MY.
2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: 2022 Lexus GX 460 Upgrades
2022 Lexus GX 460 gets major technological upgrades Lexus’ tough SUV also gets a new Black Line trim. The Lexus GX 460 is an oddly charming SUV, one as luxurious as it can afford with some of the best off-road chops in the business.
Lexus announced many changes for the 2022 GX 460 on Thursday, and while they didn’t radically change the SUV’s overall formula, they did offer meaningful improvements that would make the GX easier to use every day.
Most importantly, the 2022 GX gets major cabin technology upgrades. The old GX used a very outdated infotainment system that was clunky and slow and didn’t offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility.
Now 2022GX460, the redesigned dashboard features a 10.3-inch touchscreen, running Lexus’ latest multimedia technology with smartphone mirroring capabilities. Speaking of phones, the GX 2022 has six USB ports throughout the cabin to keep the device charged.
Navigation, parking assistance, and electrically heated folding mirrors are standard on the 2022 GX, joining an already extensive list of driver-assist technologies. Like all Lexus 2022 vehicles, the GX 460 is equipped with the Lexus Safety System Plus range.
Which includes pre-collision braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, automatic headlights, and high-speed adaptation (read: non-maximum speed). automatic speed adjustment.
The new Black Line trim package complements the changes made for the 2022 model year and is similar to what Lexus offers on other vehicles. Here the Black Line package adds unique alloy wheels, black chrome accents, and a new bumper skirt. Buyers can pair this pack with several different exterior colors, including the new Nori Green Pearl pictured above.
All other details of the GX are the same as before. Power comes from a 4.6-liter V8 engine with 301 horsepower and 329 pounds of torque, and many different off-road technologies can help you make the GX excel on track.
The 2022 GX is on sale now, with prices starting at $56,500, including $1,075 for the destination. The Black Line Special Edition isn’t listed on the Lexus main site yet, but we expect it to be available in the coming months.
2022 Lexus GX 460 Luxury
Most of today’s SUVs are designed more for city driving than tackling cobblestones and dirt roads.
The Lexus GX 460 2021 is a bit different. It is quite capable of handling those menial tasks thanks to a special suspension system that improves wheel articulation in off-road situations. This, combined with a low-range 4WD system, maximizes traction when you need it most.
- Impressive off-road capabilities in a segment that is large without

- Rough ride on broken sidewalks
- The new Premium Plus package includes electrically adjustable third-row seats and premium audio
- Acoustic glass on the front side window

- Part of the second generation of GX 460 introduced in 2010
Unfortunately, the GX 460’s off-road focus disrupts comfort on the road. We like the firm seating position and user-friendly interior, but the ride is stiff on less-than-perfect sidewalks.
Other drawbacks include an undersized and very thirsty V8 and a lack of cargo space. Some other SUVs, like the Land Rover Discovery, are better at offering similar capabilities without sacrificing utility. Check out our Expert Rating for more information on our opinion on the 2021 GX 460.
It may be the most expensive, but we think the high-end GX 460 Luxury is the way to go. The adaptive suspension helps improve the ride and the available off-road package makes it suitable for tough rides.
The Lexus GX 460 2021 is a three-line luxury SUV that is available in three trim levels: basic, premium, and luxury. Each is powered by a 4.6 liter (301 hp, 329 lb-ft) V8 engine mated to a standard six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.
The luxurious Luxury upholstery is made of Premium upholstery and adds:
- Self-leveling adaptive air suspension
- Wooden heated steering wheel
- Improved leather upholstery
- Electrically foldable in the third row as standard
2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: 2022 Lexus GX 460 Interior
2022 Lexus GX Interior has always been generous when it comes to features in its offerings and the big figures here also stand as a strong testimony of the same.
Even the base trim is nicely stacked with all the basic features and a few fancy features reminiscent of the Bang For Buck proposition.
Apart from a well-completed list, the 2022 Lexus GX Interior also adds several new features as standard and in an additional package which includes:
- Heated Wood-trimmed Steering Wheel is available in Premium and Premium Plus packages
- 18-inch silver wheels are available in Premium and Premium Plus packages
- The acoustic windshield on all models
- Premium Plus package available
- New Premium trim added
- Amazon Alexa compatibility
The Lexus GX has received a complete redesign since 2010, and this is the main reason for its outdated look and carbon.
The dashboard is too old to talk about because of its boxy design language and lots of physical buttons bring us a recap to 2010!
The 2022 Lexus GX Interior of the Lexus GX 460 2022 gets a smooth mix of wood and leather, trying to convey a premium feel which is the only breathing point for this Lexus apart from the very comfortable front row seats.
The front row passengers offer a high seating position, but the second-row seats are narrow and hard, and the third row is restricted to children.
But Lexus has made sure that the cabin is noise-free and the cabin remains quiet even when driving at high speeds on the highway.

There are some hard plastic panels throughout the cabin that convinced us to trust it to be part of a rugged but not cutting edge off-road pedigree. What comes as a breath of fresh air in 2022, however, is the addition.
Heated wood trim steering wheel, which enhances the premium intelligence of this SUV.
The Lexus GX provides 11.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row and 46.7 cubic feet behind the second row. With the second and third rows folded, the cargo space is 64.7 cubic feet.
It’s a bit smaller space than what you see in the cabins of rival models like the Audi Q7 but still manages to get close to its competitors and all three SUVs have similar seating layouts.
The creature comfort features that the Lexus GX 460 2022 is famous for are:
- Three-spoke steering wheel with built-in controls
- Reclining, sliding, 60/40 second-row split seat
- Three-zone automatic climate control
- Seat Heated and Ventilated
- Second Row Captain’s Seat
- 10-way power front seat
- Lexus Memory System
- Moonroof power
The infotainment system in the Lexus GX 460 2022 is another specimen that is reminiscent of its outdated nature.
The GX 460 needs serious upgrades to keep itself competitive with its competitors as the user interface on the 8-inch touchscreen unit is boring compared to the iDrive interfaces on Audi’s Bimmers and MMIs.
The missing Apple Carplay and Android Auto compatibility is another major reason that makes it out even when compared to the segment below!
However, Lexus offers its own Enform Remote service, an application-based technology that allows you to connect your smartphone and smartwatch. It allows you to receive services such as engine start, climate control, fuel level check, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.
While most of these features help keep it afloat, the lines are thin and Lexus needs to work fast on the right upgrades. The various infotainment features on the Lexus GX2022 460 are:
- HD radio, Bluetooth, and four USB ports which include two rear ports
- Optionally you get a premium 17-speaker audio system
- Dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system
- Nine speaker audio system
- Lexus Enform App Suite
- 8-inch touch screen
- Built-in Navigation
- Amazon Alexa
2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: 2022 Lexus GX 460 Exterior
The Lexus GX 460 2022 looks no different from the model launched a decade ago.
The exterior looks dated compared to its core rivals in the market. Last year, the Lexus GX 460 received front facia tweaks with a redesigned front grille and headlights that relieve pain by a margin but that won’t last long enough and with its competitors receiving 2nd upgrades and in some cases 3rd generation, Lexus need a serious wake-up call!
Apart from the standard exterior features, Lexus also offers buyers the option to change the aesthetic with a few additional packages.
The Sport Design Package adds even more attention to detail, by offering a lowered surround grille, rear valence, side mirrors, matte black exhaust tip, red tail light.
The 19-inch wheels available with this package also fill in the gaps created by the expanding fenders.
The Lexus GX 460 is the heaviest SUV of the bunch weighing over 5,000 pounds but carrying around the curb with grace. It does come with a lot of struggle in the city but even in extreme off-road conditions, the GX manages to stay gripping throughout the ride and doesn’t sweat the driver either.
The BMW X5 is the tallest SUV that helps it achieve some of the characteristics of a centric sedan with impressive cornering and acceleration cues. The key exterior features of the Lexus GX 460 2022 are:
- The rear spoiler is integrated with the Rear Window wipers
- Standard 18 or 19-inch wheels
- Triple-Beam LED Headlights
- Redtail light
- Color running board
- Heated ORVM
- Roof Rail
2022 Lexus GX 460 Engine
The Lexus GX 460 2022 continues to be powered by a high-speed 4.6L Naturally Aspirated V8 that produces 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft.
All trims have a single-engine option and are combined with the 6-Speed Automatic transmission that comes standard with an impressive Four Wheel Drive System that gives this sizable SUV the passion to tame any kind of terrain you face.
Lexus also offers a Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System as standard which helps improve traction when off-road. Ironically, the aging ladder-on-frame chassis is one of the main reasons for its brutal, non-comparative off-road prowess that tends to leave the competition by a large margin.
The downside here is the relatively higher rev range to build, at torque due to the absence of forced induction.
The GX 460 is smooth for use on paved roads but shows its true colors when taken off-road. Its solid base and 8.1-inch ground clearance make it a great choice for outdoor touring.
The BMW X5 is one of these groups to get the most out of the turbocharged unit as its torque curve comes in at an impressive 1,500 RPM for an SUV of its caliber. But Lexus is the only one from this group that can use 4WD.

The Lexus GX 2022 continues to offer just one engine: the 4.6-liter V-8 that produces 301 horsepower and 329 lb-ft of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
Lexus’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System is standard, and this arrangement aims to increase traction during off-road adventures. During our tests, the GX went from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds.
We have tested a much faster rival model. An Audi Q7 with the available V-6 made the sprint in 6.1 seconds, and the BMW X5 xDrive50i covered the same distance in less than 4.2 seconds.
The GX exhibits relatively smooth handling on paved roads but keeps the elements off-road.
Its solid base and 8.1-inch ground clearance make this SUV an excellent choice for buyers who need a vehicle that is comfortable in the outdoors. The crane capacity of 6500 pounds supports its versatility.
2022 Lexus GX 460 Redesign: 2022 Lexus GX 460 MPG
The Lexus GX holds disappointing fuel economy figures. According to the EPA, the Lexus GX 460 2022 continues to return 15 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the road which remains unchanged from 2020 as there are no updates to the drivetrain yet.
In the era of hybridization, Lexus has decided to embrace natural aspirations and strive on the front of fuel efficiency and is one of the main reasons why we feel that the GX 460 has passed its renaissance.
However, with a large enough offer, the specialty is in the fuel tank capacity.
Lexus packs in an impressively large 23-gallon fuel tank but when coupled with the subpar MPG figure all the impression fades away due to its competition with a slightly smaller fuel tank however the much higher MPG figure offers a wider driving range which can concurrently as a touring vehicle too.
There are 3 driving modes, namely Standard, Sport, and ECO, which don’t help much to maintain the comfort of this thirsty V8.
Lexus stands helpless when it comes to MPG numbers compared to its much more modern competitors. The turbocharged engines in the BMW X5 and Audi Q7 help maintain better MPG numbers without compromising front-end performance.
The BMW X5 stands out in this group with the highest MPG numbers and despite having the smallest fuel tank size of this group, it outperforms the others in terms of driving distance. The Audi Q7’s 2022 mpg figures rank among the efficient and aging Lexus Bimmer.
The GX will not win any awards for fuel economy. According to the EPA, this all-wheel-drive SUV achieves a mileage of just 15/19 mpg on the city/highway. That puts it well behind rival luxury SUVs like the Lincoln Aviator, which gets 17/24 mpg when equipped with all-wheel drive.
During our use of the GX, we observed mileage of just 20 mpg during our 200-mile road fuel-economy test – which is part of our comprehensive testing regimen.
2022 Lexus GX 460 Price
The Lexus GX 460 2022 starts at $ 53,100 for the base trim, $ 55,890 for the Premium trim, and $ 64,365 for the luxury trim.
When compared to the 2020 Lexus GX 460 price tag, the price for this new model has hit $ 100 across the trim-table which doesn’t disappoint considering the additional features that are now in place.
The car still maintains its presence on the road and hasn’t forgotten the large front spindle grille that has long puzzled the car community!
2022 Lexus GX 460 Release Date
The Lexus GX 460 2022 has been slated to launch in Fall 2020 and has seen a slight increase in price which still makes it the cheapest offering in its segment.
If you’re willing to trade luxury for a sturdy Japanese engine and rock-solid performance then the Lexus GX 2022 Release Date is the car you need. The GX never disappoints when it comes to performance.
Lexus GX 2022 Release Date The only drawback is the fuel economy. We hope that Lexus offers design changes to the SUV and refines the engine for better performance and mileage.
On another note, if you’re looking for a luxury SUV option beyond the 2022 Lexus GX Review, then get straightforward alternatives like the Audi Q7 and BMW X5, which frankly wear a more complete package on the table.
