The burly V-8 engine rumbles under the hood, but drivers shouldn’t expect the LX to provide fast acceleration or nimble handling.
Lexus’ relaxing ride is on par with other luxury off-road vehicles such as the Land Rover Range Rover and the Infiniti QX80. Cabin accommodation is just as luxurious, but those looking for the latest infotainment technology may be disappointed by the LX’s outdated offering.
As an initial description, the biggest SUV, Lexus, enters 2022 with several changes. The new Sport package is available in a three-row model, which adds a unique exterior styling, 21-inch wheels, and Eminent White Pearl, Black Onyx, or Atomic Silver paint.
Also available on the three-row model is the Inspirational Series # 2 package that darkens most of the LX’s exterior trim and adds a black 21-inch smoked lens wheel for exterior lighting elements, black badges, and Rioja Red semi-aniline leather upholstery.
The Caramel Glazed Interior is now available and the LX infotainment system now includes Amazon Alexa compatibility.
2022 Lexus LX600
The Lexus LX600 has been registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office hinting at a future update to the top lineup of SUV models. However, the trademark application is still being processed. Lexus’ legal team submitted documents on October 10.
In addition, Motor1.com encountered several recent LX600 trademark applications in other countries around the world. Lexus submits all of these applications on October 10 or 11. Additional places include Canada, Peru, the Philippines.
With its introduction in the United States in 2007 for the 2008 model year, the Lexus LX is one of the oldest new vehicles available in Uncle Sam’s country. However, rumors suggest that a new generation of Lexus and Toyota Land Cruiser, which use the same platform, will arrive soon.
The two will share a new body-on-frame chassis, but the existing V8 engine will no longer be available. The new powertrain lineup is thought to include a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, a V6 turbodiesel, and a V6 hybrid. At least some of these machines rely on a 10-speed automatic transmission rather than the current 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The question of when the first debut for the next generation Lexus LX is still a mystery. However, this trademark filing is just an application, and the company does not yet have the right to use the name. Because it took months for the trademark office to grant the necessary permits until early 2020.
2022 Lexus LX600 Interior
On the inside, the 2022 LX has a large screen, but its massive body doesn’t necessarily mean a grand ballroom interior. Each row of seats with a good design can be occupied. While none offer ample space we see large families with growing children may be better served by the magnificent Lincoln Navigator and its class-leading third-row spaciousness.
A corner of the LX’s interior is the 12.3-inch infotainment screen that towers over the dashboard. It is equipped with a very soft leather cabin as well as genuine metal accents and a glossy wood splash which complements a refresher that doesn’t look tacky.
The build quality and switchgear are worthy of a luxury label, although the instrument panel button group is a bit messy. At the back of the third row, the 2022 Lexus LX has room for three totes. After the second and third rows were folded we managed to load 29 chests. That figure beats the Range Rover three but the short wheel Navigator makes it a 33 and the long-wheelbase version packs 45 cases.
Well, we turn to the infotainment system that is owned by the LX which is controlled by a flat controller such as a joystick which is located to the right of the gearshift. We find this difficult to operate and in our experience difficult to use safely while driving.
Regarding the actual infotainment system and organization, we have a generally positive view of the Lexus Enform interface. In the 2022 Lexus LX, the large 12.3-inch screen allows convenient split-screen operation.
The center console offers redundant climate control and has much-appreciated volume and tune knobs. Its flagship luxury SUV should come standard with every convenience technology available in the market but the good thing is that the 2022 Lexus LX doesn’t have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto integration. It also doesn’t offer data connection services for cellular Wi-Fi.
2022 Lexus LX600 Engine
To feed the 383-hp 5.7 liter V-8 under the hood, the LX swallows a lot of air, a move that’s not at all quiet. When you hit the gas pedal heavily, the LX collects itself with a huge roar before sprinting from zero to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. That’s enough to break away from the “slow” label, but the LX is easily beaten by many of its competitors.
In comparison, the Mercedes-AMG GLS63 jumps to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The LX is not a luxury vehicle that allows the driver to sit back, relax and slide to their destination. Although the ride is comfortable and avoids bumps on the road, the steering is numb and disconnected, and low-speed turns require a lot of arm work.
The increased speed of the LX on the highway and the lack of steering feel make for a busy trip; Minor corrections to keep the vehicle in a straight line are often made. This creates more work than it would take to drive in a straight line.
If towing is a serious problem, forget about the LX altogether and head to a Toyota dealer for the Land Cruiser. It offers an extra 1100 pounds of capability versus an LX 7000-pound rating.
2022 Lexus LX600 MPG
In LX, every day is Thirsty Thursday. The LX is built with a formula that predates the turbocharged-everything run, and good petrol mileage doesn’t seem to be on the checklist in the early 2000s. With a combined EPA rating of 15 mpg, it is one of the most inefficient vehicles on the market today.
The EPA estimates the LX should deliver 18 mpg on the highway; on the 200-mile highway fuel-economy test route, we recorded 17 mpg.
2022 Lexus LX600 Price and Release Date
The LX comes in two- and three-line arrangements; given the size, we would choose three rows as having a few extra seats isn’t a bad thing. The base tier is well equipped with onboard navigation, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, all-wheel drive, adaptive suspension, and plenty of driver assistance features.
The Luxury package doesn’t add much to the core but adds leather upholstery, four-zone automatic climate control, heated and ventilated first and second-row seats, and elegant puddle lights integrated into the exterior mirrors.
